Events

Our projects are made possible thanks to the generous contributions of friends of Streetscapes and the support of local businesses. We are deeply grateful to our past supporters – and we welcome new supporters.

As we plan events we will announce them here.

See below for a description of our past fundraising events.

Collaborations in Our Community

Ludlow Streetscapes is pleased to be involved with other non-profit organizations to town. In July 2022 we participated in the BRAM (Black River Academy Museum) Block Party on Depot Street. This was the first community event since the Covid Pandemic that we socialized as an organization within the community. The sun was shining bright on Saturday, July 9th as we set up our tent, offered a coloring station for kids and sold raffle tickets for a set of hanging flower baskets along with two incredible Wine & Cheese Depot Gift Baskets donated by the Wine & Cheese Depot and William Raveis Real Estate Vermont Properties Team. It was such a pleasure to greet familiar faces we had not seen in some time and introduce Ludlow Streetscapes to visitors and new residents with the photos of our past accomplishments. It was a wonderful night full of conversation, baked goods, raffles and square dancing!!

In June 2023 BRAM and the Black River Valley Senior Center hosted a BRHS (Black River High School) Alumni Gathering on High Street. Our group was able to participate at the event with a donation plant sale for our organization and share all of the projects we have done over the years with attendees using our poster board displays. In addition to the opportunity to visit the new BRHS exhibit the event entertained with food, games, music and the most famous Black River Alumnus - Calvin Coolidge.

Throwdown at the Charity Hoedown

In October 2009, Ludlow Streetscapes held a barbecue and auction under the tent behind the Pot Belly restaurant. It featured a cook-off where the guests and a celebrity panel served as judges. The cook-off was between two local providers: Curtis Bar-B-Que of Chester, VT and Squeals on Wheels of Mt. Holly, VT.

We also served barbecue chicken provided by Ludlow Side Hill Cronchers, coleslaw from Killarney’s, and beans, cornbread and cow pies courtesy of Streetscapes members. The evening ended with square dancing (with instruction) to the music of Run Mountain.

The live auction featured one-of-a-kind milking stools, painted and decorated by local artists, and unique benches made by local craftsmen. The stools and benches were sponsored by local businesses and friends of Streetscapes.

Also in the auction were a South African photo safari, and a villa vacation for four in Tuscany.

A special thanks to our artists and sponsors without whom this would not have been possible. The proceeds from the auction helped to fund our continuing efforts to beautify Ludlow.

The Streetscapes Hoedown

In October 2007, we sponsored our third fundraising event at The Round House at Jackson Gore.  It featured a full dinner, consisting of a barbecue smorgasbord prepared by Chef Breen of Coleman Brook Tavern at Jackson Gore.

Square dancing to live music by the Turkey Mountain Window Smashers, with John Newton as caller, entertained the audience. The main event was a live auction. Guests could bid on one-of-a-kind hand painted table-top figures by local artists, sponsored by local businesses and friends of Streetscapes. Hand-decorated sap buckets also were auctioned to benefit the Black River Academy Museum.

The live auction also included three unique Vermont experiences – hunting wild boar and elk,18 holes of golf and a ride on Okemo’s  “Yellow Submarine.” Additionally, a silent auction of items donated by local businesses, artists and friends contributed to our fundraiser.

Proceeds from the live and silent auction were dedicated to the continuation of our “Brighten Up Ludlow” projects.

See the Crias!

On Columbus Day weekend, 2006, Ludlow again turned out to celebrate the Crias — baby llamas that would be featured in Ludlow Streetscapes’ second Fund Raising auction.  Once more, local sponsors and artists collaborated to paint and decorate these adorable creatures, which began to make their appearance in early summer. They could be seen in businesses around town.

The auction was again held in a tent in the village behind the Pot Belly restaurant.   Proceeds from the Cria auction funded the continuation of our beautification activities in 2007 and 2008.

Here Come the Llamas of Lludlow

Our first fundraising event took place in 2004 at the Veterans Memorial Park. Local artists, businesses and friends of Streetscapes collaborated to transform a herd of unpainted fiberglass llamas into beautiful pieces of art that were featured in a summer-long public art show all over town. On Columbus Day weekend, they were paraded down Main Street to a tent behind the Pot Belly restaurant where they were auctioned off.

The proceeds allowed Streetscapes to design and fund the installation of new and vastly improved lighting in downtown Ludlow.

The support of local businesses, organizations and individual donors for this event was extraordinary. We are profoundly grateful to them and to the artists who created these beautiful and unique objects.  Without their help, this would not have been possible!
